Members are responsible for ensuring that constituency office work environments meet safety and security requirements and protect constituency office staff, office assets and information, and the public in general.

The Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms, through the MLA Safety Program, has resources available to assist in ensuring safe constituency offices. These include awareness and education sessions for both MLAs and constituency office staff, security flagging of constituency offices with the police agency of jurisdiction, a team to conduct threat assessment investigations in relation to any communications, contacts, or behaviours of concern, and a Legislative Assembly-provided security system for constituency offices. This security system will be customized to the space and includes an access control system, an intrusion detection system (panic buttons and after-hours alarm), and a video surveillance system. This system is provided and installed by the Legislative Assembly. Education and training on the operation and scope of the system is also provided to MLAs and their constituency office staff.

Reference guides on constituency office security information and specifications are available on the Client Care Portal.

Specific questions and requests for assistance with respect to constituency office security issues should be directed to the MLA Safety Program email address.
