This section contains an alphabetical listing of policies that apply to caucuses and/or Members as articulated within the policy application statement. Users are advised that the Legislative Assembly’s administrative policies, available here, or through the ‘Policies’ navigation menu at the top of the screen, may also be of relevance. For example, section 1.05 of Policy 3500 – Internal Audit, identifies the ability of Caucus Chairs to submit a written request for the provision of internal audit services for a caucus or constituency office.

The Appropriate Use of IT Resources for Members and Employees of a Member or Caucus Policy was approved by the Legislative Assembly Management Committee on May 7, 2024; click here to view the policy.

This policy outlines responsibilities for Members and their staff to ensure information technology resources are used appropriately to protect the privacy, confidentiality, and security of Legislative Assembly information, including information under the control of a Member of the Legislative Assembly, and the protection of Legislative Assembly assets.

This policy is administered by the Information Technology Department.

The Caucus Funding Policy was approved by the Legislative Assembly Management Committee on December 1, 2016; click here to view the policy.

This policy documents the approved formula for caucus and independent member budgets and is administered by Financial Services.

The Caucus Funding – Leader’s Office Policy was approved by the Legislative Assembly Management Committee on December 19, 2018, and revised September 22, 2023; click here to view the policy.

This policy documents the approved formula for the Leader’s Office portion of annual caucus budgets and is administered by Financial Services.

The Constituency Office Leasing Policy was approved by the Legislative Assembly Management Committee on May 7, 2024; click here to view the policy.

This policy establishes parameters and requirements for constituency office leasing and lease management and is administered by Client Services.

A transitional directive provides clarifications and transitional measures for the policy’s implementation between the 42nd Parliament and the 43rd Parliament.

The Information Security Policy was approved by the Legislative Assembly Management Committee on May 7, 2024; click here to view the policy.

This policy establishes information security requirements, principles, and processes to mitigate risks and safeguard information. The policy is administered by the Information Technology Department and applies to everyone who uses Legislative Assembly IT resources or the Legislative Assembly network.

The IT Resource Allocation for Members and Employees of a Member or Caucus Policy was approved by the Legislative Assembly Management Committee on July 20, 2023; click here to view the policy.

This policy outlines the allocation, repair and replacement of IT resources and is administered by the Information Technology Department. Questions about the policy or requests for IT resources may be directed to servicedesk@leg.bc.ca.

The Legislative Precinct Parking Policy was approved by the Legislative Assembly Management Committee on November 17, 2021; click here to view the policy.

This policy provides a framework for the allocation and terms of use of parking spaces assigned to Members of the Legislative Assembly and caucus employees.

Administrative or assignment inquiries may be directed to parking@leg.bc.ca.

The Members’ Legal Assistance (Indemnification) Policy was approved by the Legislative Assembly Management Committee in June 2020 and updated in September 2024; click here to view the policy. This policy sets out the criteria and approval process for reimbursement or payment by the Legislative Assembly of legal fees and other costs incurred by a Member (or former Member) in relation to legal proceedings that have arisen in the discharge of the Member’s (or former Member’s) parliamentary functions. The policy is administered by Legal Services.

A “legal proceeding” under the policy is a civil, criminal or administrative proceeding or investigative process. It may also include an internal investigation, review or dispute resolution processes of the Legislative Assembly if the Subcommittee on Administration and Operations of the Legislative Assembly Management Committee determines it appropriate at the outset of such a process.

Among the criteria to be eligible for financial assistance under the policy, a Member must not have initiated (or intend to initiate) a legal proceeding, the legal proceeding must concern a matter arising in the discharge of the Member’s parliamentary functions, the Member must not have conducted themselves in a dishonest or malicious manner or in bad faith, and the legal proceeding must not be in respect of a dispute with another Member (or former Member) or caucus, with the Legislative Assembly, or with officers or employees of the Legislative Assembly.

All requests are treated as confidential, subject only to the financial reporting requirements set out in this policy (without attribution to requestor or legal matter).

Members are encouraged to contact the Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel as soon as they become aware of a legal proceeding in which they are implicated.

Policy 6020 – Precinct Space Management was approved by the Legislative Assembly Management Committee on September 9, 2024, and is administered by Precinct Services.

This policy provides a framework for how the Legislative Assembly allocates workspace within the Legislative Precinct to ensure the use of space is equitable, efficient, and meets current and future business needs of the Legislative Assembly. The policy is applicable to Members, caucuses, the Legislative Assembly Administration, and any other group or individual allocated workspace within the Legislative Precinct.

Policy 6015 – Precinct Use was approved by the Legislative Assembly Management Committee on May 27, 2021, and updated September 9, 2024.

This policy addresses requests to use designated areas within the Parliament Buildings, including events sponsored by a Member or caucus, requests for events on the legislative grounds, and requests to change the light colour of the ceremonial entrance, front fountain, Centennial Fountain, and Confederation Garden Park fountain and waterfall.

The Reporting Suspected Wrongdoing Policy was approved in-principle by the Legislative Assembly Management Committee on May 7, 2024, and will become fully operational following the appointment of a disclosure entity; click here to view the policy.

This policy establishes an independent and arm’s-length process for current and former Members of the Legislative Assembly to report suspected wrongdoing within the Legislative Assembly Administration without fear of retaliation. The policy will be administered by the disclosure entity once appointed by the Legislative Assembly Management Committee. Questions about this policy may be directed to the Office of the Clerk.

The Respectful Workplace Policy was formally adopted by the Legislative Assembly Management Committee on July 8, 2021; click here to view the policy.

This policy formally establishes shared workplace standards of conduct among different groups who interact and work on the Legislative Precinct and provides support through an Independent Respectful Workplace Office (IRWO).
