Legal and Legislative Drafting Services

The Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel (LCPC) is responsible for providing confidential legal and legislative drafting services to Members of the Legislative Assembly and parliamentary committees. The services are non-partisan and include assistance in the interpretation of statutes, drafting legislation (Members’ bills and private bills) and House amendments, reviewing the form of proposed amendments to all types of bills, and providing legal advice on the many areas of law that are engaged in in the course of carrying out a Member’s parliamentary functions, including the law on the privileges, immunities and powers of the Legislative Assembly and its Members.
